Elke Nebel was born in 1975 in Kleve.
Nebel studied from 1997 to 2002 at the Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Jörg Immendorff.
In 2004, she received the Dusseldorf Prize for Fine Arts. From 2009 to 2011 she was a lecturer at the Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and in 2012 she completed a visiting professorship at the Kunstakademie Münster.
