Willi Siber wurde 1949 in Eberhardzell geboren. Siber studierte von 1970 bis zum Staatsexamen 1974 Kunstwissenschaften an der Universität Stuttgart. Zeitgleich besuchte er die Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart. Dieses Studium schloss er 1976 als Meisterschüler in der Fachklasse für Bildhauerei von Herbert Baumann mit dem Staatsexamen ab. Seine Ateliers in Reutlingen und Dietenwengen bezog Willi Siber in den 1970er Jahren. Seit 1999 entstehen Großskulpturen auf seinem Werkplatz im Tessin. Willi Sibers Formkörper und Bildzyklen untersuchen das Material Holz und das raumbezügliche Verhältnis von Relief und Skulptur. Voluminöse Gitterobjekte stehen mit ihrer Filigranität und Transparenz neben kompakten stereometrischen Körpern, deren splissige oder sägerauhe, zapfenbesetzte Oberflächen materielle Vitalität, Verletzlichkeit und Entkörperlichung assoziieren. Der Eindruck von Schwere und Leichtigkeit, Dichte und Auflösung, Raumtiefe und Oberflächenkonzentration steht im Vordergrund einer irritierenden Form- und Oberflächenbehandlung, welche die Gewissheit unserer Seherfahrung hinterfragt. Seit 1990 stellt Willi Siber weltweit in Galerien, Museen und Kunstvereinen aus. Durch seine Galerien wird er regelmäßig auf den internationalen Kunstmessen repräsentiert. Willi Sibers künstlerisches Werk wird ergänzt durch vielfältige Kunst-am-Bau-Projekte. Here she has the opportunity to acquire an original sculpture by Willi Siber from 2017 for her collection.
The "wall object" is made of solid steel, which is lacquered with a visually appealing interference lacquer in two shades of brown and rosé. The shine and the different colour impressions are shown off particularly beautifully by the tightly intertwined coils.
The sculpture is a real eye-catcher. It was conceived by the artist as an object to be mounted on the wall (an opening on the underside is provided for hanging), but it can also be positioned freely in the room without any problems. The subtle play between weight and lightness, light and shadow gives the object its auratic presence.
„In 2011 Willi Siber discovered steel as a new material for his art. [...] The basic material of the wall and floor objects are steel tube profiles, which are normally used in crane construction, and which are characterised by a special stability. It is actually impossible to break or bend the tubes. But that is exactly what Siber does in his metal workshop in Dietenwengen. He cuts off individual pieces with high pressure. From the resulting elements he welds sinuous forms that develop like straws bent upwards or across the floor. Unlike many other sculptors, however, Siber does not leave the steel in its rough, cool surface. Chrome lacquer instead of car paint refines the sculptures into sensorially exciting spectacles. The creases and edges develop a play with light and shadow, which creates countless colour nuances. Through his technically sophisticated process, Siber gives the heavy industrial material a lightness and elegance that one would hardly have thought possible.“
