Refik Anadol was born in Istanbul in 1985.
Anadol studied at Istanbul Bilgi University, where he obtained a BA in Photography and Video in 2009 and an MFA in Visual Communication in 2011. In 2014, he completed his studies at UCLA with an MFA in Design Media Arts.
The Turkish-American media artist is particularly known for his work with artificial intelligence and data.
His works often consist of data-driven machine learning algorithms that create abstract, immersive, dreamlike environments from data streams. Traditional media, architecture and moving images are used to create these experiences.
His works have been exhibited at venues including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre Georges-Pompidou in Paris, the World Economic Forum in Davos and the Centre for Art and Media in Karlsruhe. His work “Infinity Room” won the German Design Award in 2017.
The artist lives and works in Los Angeles.
