Hanna Nitsch was born in Freiburg in 1974.

Nitsch studied philosophy and German language and literature, and later fine arts with Peter Dreher and Silvia Bächli in Karlsruhe. In 2003 she was accepted into the Cusanuswerk's scholarship programme for gifted children. She completed her studies with Herrman Albert and Klaus Stümpel at the HBK Braunschweig in 2007 as a master student.

. Nitsch initially chose mainly drawing as her medium - powerful ink colours, for example, characterise the perfectly staged portraits of her children. The observation and representation of her three children form one of her most important motifs over the years. In recent years she has expanded her repertoire, experimenting with graphics, ceramics, video and especially photography.

'Among the central questions of my artistic practice are those of role patterns and stereotypes, of my role as an artist, woman and mother in society, of self-perception and external perception and the resulting criticism of posthuman body design in the age of digital and social media. Where is the authenticity of the body subject in the age of capitalist mass design of the body? Is there an inaccessible last space of the 'interior'?'

The artist has recently had solo exhibitions in the municipal galleries in Braunschweig, Wolfsburg and Wiesbaden. Her art is also regularly in excellent company, for example, it was shown in the 2012 exhibition 'Das eigene Kind im Blick - Künstlerkinder von Runge bis Richter, von Dix bis Picasso' and is prominently featured in the recently published anthology 'I Love Women In Art' (Munich 2020) with 100 portraits of women artists - including Hannah Höch, Marianne Brandt, VALIE EXPORT and Monica Bonvicini - presented by 100 women from the art world.

Hanna Nitsch lives and works in Braunschweig.

Charity Edition 2025 - art for a good cause

Delivery before Christmas is possible for orders placed before December 15, 2024.

For the opening of Chemnitz as European Capital of Culture 2025, our gallery is presenting a special charity edition in collaboration with the artist Hanna Nitsch. This exclusive edition of a pigment print, based on an ink painting by the artist, is limited to 70 copies. The motif shows the artist's daughter and reflects the central theme of her work: family and the fragile dynamics of human relationships.

However, this edition is not just about artistic expression - it is also a gesture of compassion and solidarity. The sale is for the benefit of the family-oriented addiction support of the Chemnitz City Mission to support children of addicted parents. This cause is particularly close to our hearts, as many children suffer from the consequences of their parents' addiction and often struggle for help in secret.According to a 2017 estimate by the Federal Drug Commissioner, over three million children and young people in Germany have at least one addicted parent.

For Konstanze Wolter, founder of our gallery, this project is also of great personal importance: “From my own experience, I know how difficult it is to survive in an environment of addiction and violence - especially for children. This campaign is intended to set an example of hope and offer the support that I would have wished for myself and my children back then."

On January 18, 2025, as part of this charitable edition, we invite you to a panel discussion with the artist, experts in addiction support and therapy in the new space of our gallery in Wirkbau Haus F.

The charity edition is now available in pre-sale for €350 . Buyers who order before 2025 will benefit from this discounted price. From January 1, 2025 on, the edition will be available for €400. With every order, you directly support the family-oriented addiction aid of the Chemnitz City Mission and help children of addicted parents.

Together, we not only want to beautify rooms with this art edition, but also change lives.

Support the children with us - through art that moves.
