Antonio Abellán was born in Cartagena, Spain, in 1964. Abellán studied at the San Carlos Art Academy in Valencia from 1983 to 1989. In his works, Abellán depicts figures that are characterised by physicality and joie de vivre. He usually shows people in elegant and dynamic poses, whether in group scenes or in more introspective, poetic scenes. He himself describes his pictures as ‘sensual works that tell humorous stories’. The artist mostly works with the collage technique. For example, he integrates old scraps of fabric or clippings from old fashion magazines into his works to dress figures. Antonio Abellán lives and works in Valencia. He has participated in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad since 1987. |
