artist
Features and remarks
"Francy" - oil painting on paper by Daniel Richter from 2003.
Daniel Richter painted exclusively abstractly until 2000. The painting on offer here is a wonderful example of his turn towards the figurative in the years after the turn of the millennium. The painter merges provocative colours, grotesque figures and art historical quotations into an unmistakable style.
Here we see a female figure in a turquoise-blue dress hanging by her hands over a blue fire. The woman's face appears to be consumed and almost a grimace of death. Looking down from above is a figure that is difficult to grasp - only the eyes are clearly recognisable!
The oil colours are applied broadly in an almost glazed manner - their style adds another layer of unease to the painting, which was created on three sheets of snow-white paper stapled together with Sellotape.
The hand-signed unique piece is mounted in a beautiful wooden frame and is in very good condition.
