With a focused gaze, Frank Krüger's photographs reveal a socialist reality in decay, three decades after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
His subtle visual wit makes us smile and awake to things we are all too willing to overlook.
Here we are near the city centre of Chemnitz. The 97 metres of the title refers to the skyscraper that towers far visibly over the Saxon city centre, which was called Karl-Marx-Stadt from 1953-1990.
The building was planned and erected from 1969 to 1974 as the Interhotel "Kongreß" in the architectural style of so-called GDR modernism. Today, it continues to be used as a hotel under a different name.
