Wolf Vostell wurde 1932 in Leverkusen geboren und verstarb 1998 in Berlin. Von 1950 an setze Vostell erste künstlerische Ideen um. 1953 begann er eine Lithografenlehre und besuchte in Wuppertal die Werkkunstschule. Unter dem Eindruck einer Reise nach Paris 1954 stellte Wolf Vostell erste Décollagen her. 1955/1956 besuchte er die Pariser École National Supérieure des Beaux Arts und 1957 die Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Wolf Vostells Happening 'Das Theater ist auf der Straße' von 1958 in Paris ist das erste Happening in Europa. Sein Happening 'Cityrama' von 1961 in Köln war das erste Happening in Deutschland. Wolf Vostell produzierte erste Objekte mit Fernsehern und Autoteilen. Im Jahre 1954 entstanden 1959 elektronische TV-Dé-coll/agen. Damit begann sein Engagement in der Fluxus-Bewegung, die er Anfang der 1960er Jahre mitbegründete. Vostell war der erste Künstler, der einen Fernseher in ein Kunstwerk integrierte (Zyklus Schwarzes Zimmer). Vostell gilt als einer der Pioniere des Environment, der Videokunst, des Happening und der Fluxus-Bewegung. Techniken wie die Verwischung oder die Décollage sind ebenso ein Kennzeichen der Werke von Wolf Vostell wie das Einbetonieren. Here you have the opportunity to acquire an original drawing by the world-famous Fluxus artist Wolf Vostell.
Vostell is known for encasing all kinds of objects, first and foremost his car, in concrete. And even in his drawings, geometric blocks seem to enclose and overmould more natural forms.Here we see a squatting female nude, whose dainty feet balancing on tiptoe remain almost the only human feature. The rest of the body is made almost entirely of curved, wedge-shaped blocks. Only one breast seems to remain inside the mould like a foreign body.
The figure seems to want to grant a surreal glimpse into the subconscious, just as an opening with a staircase leads into the darkness at the top of the form.
The drawing is almost entirely in graphite grey, but is accentuated in places with blue coloured pencil. The picture is mounted between two panes of glass in the original artist's frame.
