Features and Remarks
Decastro dedicates this work to one of the most symbolic flags in the world: the Star-Spangled Banner or Stars and Stripes of the United States of America. The red, white and blue flag is a highly ambivalent icon today: it stands for one of the oldest democracies in the world, freedom and the "American Dream", but also for imperialism and capitalism.
The painter, who works near Frankfurt, translates this ambiguity into a visually powerful image. He lets the colours and shapes of the flag melt and dissolve - "Gone with the Wind".
By using highly pigmented lacquer colours on a black background, the luminosity of the work is impressive. The picture is already mounted ready to hang in a dark shadow gap frame. Ready for your wall!
„Looking at Decastro's oeuvre as a whole, it can be said that it oscillates between maximalism and minimalism, between action and contemplation. [...] The artist's experimental dynamism seems insatiable, and the same applies to the energy that flows so conspicuously in his works. Dance, spirituality and painting unite here in a remarkable symbiosis.“
