Niclas Castello (bürgerlicher Name Norbert Zerbs) wurde 1978 in Neuhaus am Rennweg geboren. Castello war Ende der 1990er Jahre Teil der Streetart-Bewegung in Ostdeutschland. Auf Grund seiner künstlerischen Interessen ging er zunächst nach Paris, wo er in Montmartre Teil der Street Art Szene wurde. Im Jahr 2003 kehrte er nach Deutschland zurück. Hier begann er ein Kunststudium, das er aber bereits nach zwei Jahren abbrach. Castello zog es dann nach New York City, wo er von seiner Mentorin, der Performancekünstlerin Arleen Schloss (*1943) unterstützt wurde und für zwei Jahre bei ihr in New York leben und arbeiten konnte. Von 2008 bis 2015 arbeitete er mit verschiedenen Galerien in Europa und den Vereinigten Staaten zusammen. Sein künstlerisches Schaffen ist geprägt von der Spannung zwischen den unterschiedlichen Ausdrucksweisen in der Malerei und der Bildhauerei. Mit der Bildsprache der Populärkultur und der Beziehung zur modernen Konsumwelt knüpft er aber auch an die Arbeiten von Andy Warhol an. The German Pop Art artist from Thuringia has made a name for himself internationally, especially among collectors in the USA and Asia. Here, he takes a recipe from the über-father of Pop Art, Andy Warhol: using the technique of silkscreen printing and icons of popular culture that are known worldwide, he creates a work of art that simultaneously addresses coolness, humour and longing.
We see fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld in the stance of the Western hero, ready to shoot, with a banana in his hands. Overlaid on a golden background are the silhouettes of the designer, who died in 2019, individually applied as a monotype.
The canvas is signed on the reverse and has not yet been mounted on a stretcher or picture support. So nothing stands in the way of individual mounting. We will be happy to assist you with this.
