artist
Neo Rauch was born in 1960, in Leipzig, East Germany.

Rauch is an artist whose paintings mine the intersection of his personal history with the politics of industrial alienation. His work reflects the influence of socialist realism, and owes a debt to Surrealists Giorgio de Chirico and René Magritte, although Rauch hesitates to align himself with surrealism. He studied at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig, and he lives in Markkleeberg near Leipzig, Germany and works as the principal artist of the New Leipzig School.

Rauch's paintings suggest a narrative intent but, as art historian Charlotte Mullins explains, closer scrutiny immediately presents the viewer with enigmas: 'Architectural elements peter out; men in uniform from throughout history intimidate men and women from other centuries; great struggles occur but their reason is never apparent; styles change at a whim.'

Features and remarks

Here you have the opportunity to purchase a current original lithograph by the internationally renowned German artist Neo Rauch.

The lithograph was printed in 2024 at the Lithographic Studio Leipzig and bears the embossed stamp of the printers (Rosentreter and Reinicke) in the lower left corner. The monochrome ink lithograph was applied to the lithographic stone by the artist himself and printed in 2024 in a strictly limited edition of only 35 copies.

The graphic was presented in 2024 at the Neo Rauch Graphic Foundation in Aschersleben in the exhibition “Bläue” by Rosa Loy and Neo Rauch. The painting “Der Former” (The Shaper) from 2016, also exhibited there, shows a thematic similarity to the lithograph. At the center of the composition is a man with long wings.

The winged figure in the print stands on a stage. The wings appear to be still wet and fall over the edge of the stage like a cape. Two attendants gently hold the wings aloft. Another figure in the foreground, possibly an artist, seems to be sketching the scene. At the top, a seated figure with crossed legs can be seen holding up a tablet, as if for evaluation.

The sheet is professionally mounted in a light wooden frame with high-quality museum glass (UV 92).

On the reverse side is the gallery label from Neo Rauch's gallery eigen + art in Leipzig.

Given the significant increase in value of Neo Rauch's work over the last few decades, this print would be a valuable addition to any collection.
