Features and remarks
Not with a brush, but with "dry paint" Manfred Peckl, the Austrian-born multi-artist, paints his pictures. Here you have the opportunity to purchase one of his fantastic collage works.
Peckel cuts posters, maps and posters into thin strips and then uses these as the basic building blocks of his pictures. One can imagine his works as a mosaic of paper, which he assembles from countless strips, some of which he shapes by hand.
The work presented here is entitled "Miss Durango". The title refers to an annual beauty contest in the Mexican state of Durango. The dark-haired beauty in the tall grass could therefore well represent the elected queen of this competition.
With countless pieces of maps, Peckl composes a sensual and at the same time ironic act here - the woman literally becomes the representative of her country.
„Maps and atlases, the body as landscape, the body is a world.“
Manfred Peckl
