André Wendland wurde 1995 in Leonberg geboren. Wendland studierte von 2017 bis 2024 Freie Kunst an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe bei Prof. Tatjana Doll. Er arbeitet figürlich und ist in seiner Ästhetik stark vom Comic und Animationsfilm inspiriert. Seine Figuren sind plakativ und oft überlebensgroß - aber die Geschichten, die sie erzählen, nimmt er aus dem einfachen Leben, mit einer gehörigen Portion Witz und Ironie. Der Künstler liebt es auch seine Bilder in korrespondierenden Räumen zu inszenieren - etwa im Atelier, im Straßenraum oder an Gebäuden. 2021 erhielt er den Karlsruher Akademiepreis sowie ein Stipendium der Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes. Er stellt seine Werke seit 2021 regelmäßig aus. 2022 hatte er seine erste Einzelausstellung 'BOXED IN' in der Plain Gallery in Mailand. Sein Werk wurde bereits 2021 in der Zeitschrift Kunstforum International (Themenband 276, Kunst=Spiel) von Larissa Kikol vorgestellt. |

The huge painting measuring 2.0x2.5 metres is a real eye-catcher! Wendland, whose figurative repertoire is heavily inspired by comics and animation series and who has also created an Insta account for Minnie Mouse and brought SpongeBob to the canvas, also creates his very own cosmos of figures: here Jacopo, the Italian jockey. A daring and fast rider with the starting number 1 on his galloping grey horse. The view of rider and animal to the rear reveals that they are leaving all pursuers in the piste dust behind them!
The larger-than-life figures with the big eyes are part of a series of pictures in which Wendland deals with highly dynamic movements and entangled bodies - athletes, musicians or people on vehicles who playfully measure their strength in bright colours and poses or simply want to get ahead.
