artist

Features and remarks

Here you have the opportunity to acquire an original oil painting by the popular German late impressionist Otto Pippel.

The huge, extraordinarily representative format of over 1.4 metres in width and the early date of creation around 1915 give this painting the status of a major work.

Sommer im Aubinger Moos

The marvellous Bavarian landscape opens up beneath a transfigured summer sky. Pippel was most likely visiting the Aubinger Moos in the west of Munich. A stone's throw from his home town of Planegg, ponds, meadows and bodies of water characterise Munich's green belt. The reflective surface of the pond captures the radiant nature in all its nuances and blends its colours. A sight of the purest poetry of light and colour.

With his keen eye for striking landscapes, Pippel takes up a position directly on the banks of the water: a vast landscape of trees and fields rises up in the background. The horizon seems endless. Summer begins to gild nature.

Sensitive to the importance of the contrast between light and dark in the overall composition, the painter also beautifully arranges the shady trees and the flora on the shore into the composition. The light green of the birch trees reflects the bright rays of the sun and casts shadows on the water surface.

"In the midst of our sorrowful grey times, the light-radiating pictures of this artist are virtually evidence of the insights into light, both atmospheric and artificial, sought by Goethe with the soul of the poet and the spirit of the explorer."

Franz Langheinrich 1932

Pippel characteristically works the picture in an impasto painting style and dynamic brushstrokes. He skilfully differentiates between different parts of the picture. The water thus remains smooth and homogeneous, while the sky and trees, for example, show a much more lively line pattern.

With an impressionistic style, the artist juxtaposes particularly bright colours in dynamic brushstrokes and dabs - he structures the front bank area and the light-coloured birch trunks particularly beautifully with an impasto and broad application of paint.

The authenticity of the work is assured by expert review.
